How to Start a Prayer Journal: Step 3

If you haven't Read the 1st 2 steps, I recommend reading them first. Ready to dive into prayer journaling? Start by choosing a regular time when you’re least likely to be interrupted—whether it’s early mornings, late nights, or a quiet afternoon. Next, create a special space where you can focus, like a cozy corner or even a hidden closet. Eliminate distractions by muting your phone and turning off any other noise. Stay consistent, but don’t stress if you miss a day—life’s not a boot camp, just a journey! Finally, reflect on what’s working and what’s not. Be flexible and adjust your routine as needed to fit your life and faith. Embrace the process with humor, grace, and a little patience, knowing your routine will evolve as you grow spiritually.

Establish a Routine

So, you're ready to get serious about journaling? Well, hold on tight, because we’re adding a bit of humor to make this routine feel a little less daunting!

Pick a Regular Time
Alright, find a time when the kids aren’t plotting a surprise kidnapping or when you won’t be interrupted by nature’s call. Whether it’s at the crack of dawn, late at night, or during your lunch break, pick a time that lets you focus on your prayers—no distractions allowed.

Create a Special Spot
Find your personal prayer nook where your thoughts can roam free. Maybe it’s a quiet corner in your home (because we all know the kids can’t find you there), under the stars, or even a closet with a soft light. Make it a space that just feels peaceful.

Eliminate Distractions
Time to banish those distractions! Mute your phone, turn off the cat videos, and pretend the UPS man doesn’t exist for a few minutes. If it helps, start with some worship music to get you in the zone before you write.

Commit to Consistency
Try to make this a regular thing, but don’t get too robotic about it. If you miss a day, no biggie. Life isn’t a boot camp—think of it as a choose-your-own-adventure book! Just keep showing up when you can.

Reflect and Adapt
Like a wise owl (or a Gumby, if you're into vintage cartoons), be flexible. Are you writing like David in the Psalms some mornings or falling asleep under the stars with a prayer on your lips? It’s okay to adapt your routine as you go—just make sure it works for you!
